The weekend just gone hosted our July Training Camp; unfortunately Guernsey were unable to join us for this!
We all arrived at Cricket Camp on Friday Evening to set up and get ready to camp! After setting up we decided to chill around the fire and forever discuss what we would be doing over the weekend and in Japan. Most went to bed between 11 and midnight but some braved it and went to bed at 1:30!
So it's up by 8 the next morning to cook sausages and have some cereal.
Next were the bases. Pioneering/gate ideas with Frank, speech prep with Chloe and cards/presenting yourself with Christine. That lasted most of the morning.
After lunch, it was kayaking and crabbing time! We were joined by Robin, Christine's husband, for the afternoon. Christine and Robin were going to take us out on the water in the kayaks. It was the less experience ones that went out first followed by the experienced ones. Whilst the first group were out on the water, the rest went crabbing. We didn't have much luck with the crabs so James, Frank, Kenneth and Curtis decided to play tennis volley-ball on the waters' edge. That resulted in most of us getting wet even before we had set sail in the kayaks. Once the second group went out it was James that was the first to capsize followed by Kenneth. Whilst the others got out, James and Curtis decided to roll. It ended in them having to bail and fight their way through the silt to reach dry land. It took longer than expected to get the kayaks out and James & Curtis covered head to toe in silt. Curtis lost his water shoes as well!
So back to camp for dinner and the menu for that night was Tofu Stir Fry. Robin stayed for dinner and the County Commissioner, Adam Jollans, also joined us.
Then we did the usual Saturday night thing around the campfire which involved smores and lots of marshmallows. Once again, some went to bed at a reasonable hour unlike the older lot!
So its back up at 8 again and those who stayed up late were starting to regret it! We had bacon and egg butties for breakfast.
After that it was more bases. Making speeches with Chloe, personal hygiene with Christine and Japanese etiquette with Frank. We then designed the hoodies and finalised our badge design!
Then it was lunch, then we packed down the tents. Curtis and James decided to collapse Chloe's tent before she actually had packed all her stuff away. The glorious banter between Leaders and Explorers!
So it was nearing the end of camp and we topped it all off with a game of hide 'n seek. Hiding places included: under the kit bags, long ferns, long grass and in plain sight.
There we have it, July Camp!
Our next stop in Guernsey!
The Tea and Biscuits
PS - photos will be in the gallery!
